FIRST AID

FIRST AID TRAINING – LEVEL 1

 Purpose of the course:

To enable staff members of companies to carry out the tasks of a First Aider within the workplace according to the requirements of the OHS Act 85 of 1993.

 Target group:

General Employees, individuals, tourist guides, teachers.

 Course outline:

    • CPR for adult casualties (2010 Guidelines)
    • Choking for adults
    • Shock
    • Unconsciousness & Fainting
    • Breathing emergencies

  5. The Trauma casualty
    • Bleeding
    • Wounds
    • Burn wounds
    • Fractures
    • Head & Spinal injuries

The content of this course complies with the guidelines of the Department of Labour Plus elective modules customised to meet the needs of the workplace.

Assessment

  • Training: 50% theory & 50% practical
  • Evaluation: 30% theory & 70% Practical
  • Competencyin CPR is compulsory

  • Entry Requirement: None
  • Language: English or Afrikaans
  • Certificate: ID Card and Certificate of Competence issued, valid for 3 years. First Aid Level 1 refresher course should be done before your certificate expires. The refresher course is one full day.
  • Duration of course: 16 hours excluding 2 hours evaluation (2 days)

Please note: If you are interested in attending a First Aid Level 1 Refresher Course, please note that your current First Aid Level 1 Certificate must still be valid.

FIRST AID TRAINING – LEVEL 2

 Purpose of the course:

To build on knowledge acquired in First Aid Level 1 and to enable learners who perform a task in the outdoors as this course has modules on snake & other animal bites as well as environmental casualties such as heat stroke and exposure to extreme cold.

Target group:

Candidates with a valid First Aid Level 1 certificate, field guides, tourist guides and employees working in the outdoors (construction, nature conservation etc).

FIRST AID TRAINING – LEVEL 3

Purpose of the course:

This course will enable the learner to take leadership in emergency situations. More focus is place on serious injuries and illnesses.

Target group:

Employees of companies where there is a higher risk of serious injuries or individuals wishing to study further to qualify them as a Basic Ambulance Assistant.

FIRST AID TRAINING COMPACT – LEVEL 1, 2, 3

  • Certificate: ID Card and First Aid Level 2 Certificate of Competence issued, valid for 3 years.
  • Duration of course: 32 hours including evaluation (4 days)

First Aid Training  Level 2 and 3

  • Course Content as for Level 2 and 3
  • Entry Requirement: Valid Level 1 certificate and Grade 9 or equivalent
  • Language: English and Afrikaans
  • Certificate: ID Card and First Aid Level 3 Certificate of Competence issued and valid for 3 years.
  • Duration of course: 32 hours including evaluation (4 days 08h00 – 17h00)

First Aid Training Level 1, 2 and 3

  • Course content as for Level 1, 2 and 3
  • Entry Requirement: Grade 9 or equivalent, but no previous First Aid Training.
  • Language:  English and Afrikaans
  • Certificate:  ID Card and First Aid Training Level 3 Certificate of Competence issued and valid for 3 years.
  • Duration of course: 40 hours including evaluation (5 days)

FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE SAFETY WORKSHOP

 Purpose of the course:

Teaching awareness for fire safety, prevention of fires and the alerting of emergency services. Candidates will also learn how to contain a veld fire soon after ignition by using equipment at hand. This course will not enable the learners to fight serious out of control veld fires.

Target group:

General labourers, farm workers, conservation staff, etc.

  4. Methods of extinguishing fires
  5. Different extinguishing agents and tools to fight fires
  6. Fire Safety

  • Entry requirement: None
  • Language: Afrikaans and English
  • Certificate: A certificate of attendance is issued. Retraining recommend after 2 years.
  • Duration: 4 hours

FIRE TEAM MEMBER

 Purpose of the course:

The OHS Act requires all employers to ensure that the workplace is safe for the employees. The risk of fires is present in most workplaces and employees must be aware of fire safety and the most effective way to extinguish a fire. This course gives the employee a theoretical background as well as practical skills to extinguish a fire.

Target group:

Employees that will be a member of a company’s Fire Team that is responsible for fire safety and fighting fires. General Employees & Fire Team Members

Course outline:

Module 1

  1. The elements of fire
  2. Classes of fire
  3. How fires spread
  4. Methods of extinguishing fires
  5. Advantages and limitations of the different extinguishing agents
  6. Choosing a method to extinguish a fire
  7. Portable fire extinguishers
  8. Fire hose reels
  9. Using extinguishers
    1. Practical if presented at our training centre.
    2. Practical at client’s venue only if a safe place for making a fire is available.

 Module 2:

  1. Fire behaviour in buildings.
  2. Policies & procedures in case of a fire.
  3. Regulations and Bylaws regarding fire safety.
  4. Floor plan and evacuation procedures.
  5. Compiling and evacuation plan.
  6. Fire safety/prevention in industry – theory only (if presented at our training centre).
  7. Fire safety/prevention in industry – Inspection of Workplace (if course is presented on site).
  8. Feedback and Report – based on practical exercise.

 Module 3:

  1. Evaluation of Company Evacuation Policies & Procedures (only when training is presented at the client’s venue i.e. on-site).
